Once again, we have been to slow. The Rubbenbruchsee Marathon 2017 is sold out already. The event is so popular that entries had to be closed on 6 January 2017, eleven months before race day.

It's a small event, the marathon is capped at 64 participants, but it shows that there is a huge demand for races like the Rubbenbruchsee Marathon, a no-fuss event that features a fine setting and a relaxed fun running atmosphere.

Moreover, it's a non-profit event. The entry fees are low (€ 15), and all proceeds will be donated to a good cause.

The 42.195km-long marathon is nine laps around the Rubbenbruchsee, a 1.3km-long and 300m-wide lake that sits on the western edge of Osnabrück, a city of about 160,000 people in the north-western part of Germany.

The route runs on gravel roads through parkland and woods. A 500m-long section is on trails. The course is a bit undulating,

The first and the last lap are approximately 3.1km long. The seven laps in between are longer (5.14km) as they include a 2km-long loop through the woods south of the lake.

In 2016, the fastest finishers were Patrick Kaczynski (2 hours 50 minutes 3 seconds) and Sita Hermand (3 hours 34 minutes 19 seconds).
