Held at the foot of the majestic Grossglockner (3798m), Austria's highest peak, the Grossglockner Berglauf is one of Central Europe's most popular mountain races.

In 2014, Kenya's Geoffrey Gikuni Ndungu (1:13:12) and Lucy Wambui Murigi (1:21:34) led an international crowd of 865 athletes across the finish line at the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe (2370m), a vantage point that offers phenomenal views of the Grossglockner and the Pasterze Glacier below.

Starting in the village of Heiligenblut (1256m), competitors run 12.7km of a very demanding uphill trail course which includes almost 1500 metres of ascent. The final kilometre is particularly steep.

The route runs through forests and pastures and around two glacial lakes.
