Held on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter, the event attracts a crowd of approximately 10,000 participants, among them many international elite distance runners.

There is a choice of races for runners  — a 5k run, a 10k race, a half marathon, and children's races.

The event also offers a 5k for walkers and nordic walkers, a 10k for handcyclists, and a half marathon for inline skaters.

Participants in the half marathon run two laps of an IAAF/AIMS-certified course through the northern part of Paderborn, an old university city of about 150,000 people in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In 2014, the half marathon winners were Ethiopia's Fentahun Hunegnaw (1:02:13) and Haylay Letebrhan Gebreslasea (1:09:45).

The time limit to complete the course is 2hr 45min.
